Rock Collection curated by Little Paper Planes at The Bell Jar, San Francisco

Little Paper Planes presents Rock Collection, inspired by the Bell Jar’s “Gold Rush” theme. Rocks unlike gold do not have an immediate and monetary value, though upon a closer look when discovering a rock, they have their own unique qualities. Navigating through rough edges and dirt, a rock can emerge into a magical find representing a past life once lived or a road once traveled, among countless stories sealed up like a safe with no key. Our rock collection will hold secrets around the magic of making. We curated our collection by inviting 17 artists to create their own rocks. We asked them to interpret this however they may whether its a painting on an existing rock, a paper rock, clay, wood, the ideas can go on forever. In conjunction with the artists’ created rocks, we will be releasing a series of prints by Cori Kindred highlighting her photographs of rock collections as well as prints by Russell Leng and Ryan Stewart Nault. This curated faux rock collection will be available only at the Bell Jar in San Francisco.

The opening is 11/11/11.

This show looks absolutely beautiful. I love the tiny sculptures. I thought they were little geological specimens in the first pics. I wish I could see them all in person.
