Laurie Reid + Benjamin Echeverria at Gallery 16 in San Francisco

I haven’t had a chance to see this show in person yet, but from the images it looks amazing.

Gallery 16 is excited to present its first exhibition with artists Benjamin Echeverria + Laurie Reid. The exhibition will feature collaborative works in a range of mediums. Delicate and ephemeral, the work is born out of concepts of authorship and mutuality. The exhibit is on display from November 11th to December 17th.

Allowing intuition and trust to guide their process, Echeverria and Reid explore artmaking through the lens of collaboration. The delicate nature of a collaborative process is a central focus in their recent activity. These efforts begin in an indeterminate and unscripted manner which results in works that inhabit feelings of insecurity, wonder, frustration and excitement.

The artists met in the spring of 2010 at a Little League baseball game and started working together that fall. They have collaborated on a number of projects including collages for Stephanie Syjuco’s SFMOMA Shadowshop and a recent exhibition for [2nd Floor Projects].

Laurie Reid’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions nation wide including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Berkeley Art Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. She was the recipient of the SFMOMA’s SECA award in 1998.

Benjamin Echeverria’s work has been exhibited at Scope Basel and Temescal Contemporary. He received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. In 2009 he was a visiting professor at the Hellenic Studies in the Arts, Paros, Greece.
